Transit Plus WisGo ID

Transit Plus is excited to announce that starting Monday, January 5th, 2026, riders will be able to use their Transit Plus WisGo ID card or UMO app, to pay their fare on Transit Plus vans and on MCTS fixed route buses. The card cannot be used to pay for rides on the Transit Plus Same Day Pilot Program.

Riders must preload money on the new card before using it.  It is recommended that you register your card in case you lose it.  There are several ways to load money (stored value) onto your card:

  1. Online at umopass.com
  2. By phone at (414) 937-0470
  3. At any MCTS location including the Administration Building, Kinnickinnic Station, or Fond du Lac Station.
  4. At a retailer near you such as Pick ‘n Save, Walgreens, CVS, El Rey, or Family Dollar.  You can find a full list of retailers here.

When riding the van:

  1. The driver will scan the card.
  2. Four dollars ($4) will be removed from the card balance.

Cash and tickets will still be accepted.  However, $4 tickets will no longer be sold after Friday, February 27th, 2026.  Riders should use up any remaining tickets prior to paying with your card.

When riding the MCTS bus:

  1. Scan the card on the validator on your left when boarding the bus.
  2. The validator will subtract $1.25 from the card and place a 90-minute transfer onto the card.  The daily fare cap on the bus is $4.00. Full bus fare information can be found here.

NOTE: Fares paid on paratransit vans do not apply toward the bus fare cap. Likewise, transfers, caps and fares from fixed route buses do not apply to paratransit vans.

If riders are already using a WisGo card, we recommend that they use the balance on that card before starting to use the Transit Plus ID WisGo card.  If preferable, riders may also transfer the existing balance to the new card by calling (414) 937-0470.  Please have both card numbers available when calling.

If you have questions, please contact the Transit Plus office at (414) 343-1700.

FAQs

Why should I register my card?

If you register your card at umopass.com, you will be able to load money and check your balance online.  It also helps us find your account number and transfer existing balances should you lose your card.

How do I register my card?

Register your Transit Plus WisGo card on the website umopass.com.  To register your card, you only need to enter the last 19 digits found below the barcode (see highlight below). Once your card is registered, you can add value online and even set up your card to auto-reload your balance when it falls below the amount you choose!

Should I keep a record of my card number?

Yes.  The 30-digit number located under the bar code on the back of the card is your account number.  We recommend that you take a picture of both sides of your card so that you have that information available should you lose your card.

How do I load money onto my card?

There are several ways to add funds to your card.

  • Online at umopass.com
  • At the MCTS Administration Building, Kinnickinnic Station, or Fond du Lac Station
  • At a participating retailer such as Pick n Save, Walgreens, or CVS.  See a full list of retailers at ridemcts.com.
  • By phone at (414) 937-0470.
What do I do if I lose my card?

Come to the Transit Plus office to get a replacement card.  If you registered the card or if you know the card number, we can transfer funds from the lost card to the replacement card.  Please have your card number ready.

***Note: If you lose your card and it has not been registered, you may lose the existing balance on the lost card. The replacement process will close the original card account.  There may be a fee associated with a replacement card.

What if I prefer to use the UMO app?

Download the UMO app from Google Play or the App Store.  Once you have installed the app, create your account using either your mobile phone number or email address.  Transfer your Transit Plus WisGo card account to the app by entering the 30-digit card number found on the back of the card below the barcode.  Add cash value to the app wallet.  Pay your fare on the van by scanning the QR code on the validator.  If you need assistance setting up your account, call Customer Service at (414) 937-0470.

***Note: This process will transfer the balance from your card and close out the card account.

Can I use a 90-minute transfer on the van?

No.  Transfers are valid for fixed route buses only.  All Transit Plus rides are $4 each one-way trip which will be deducted from your Transit Plus WisGo ID card or UMO app on the van.

Do payments on vans count towards my fare capping?

No. Only rides taken on fixed route buses apply toward your fare cap.

Can I pay for a companion to ride with my card?

You can use your card or app to pay for a companion but must wait at least 2 minutes before scanning the card or app for the second fare.  Companions can also pay with their own WisGo card, UMO app or cash.

Does my PCA have to scan a card?

No.  Your PCA rides for free on the van or bus and does not need to scan a card or app.  Show the driver your Transit Plus WisGo ID card with PCA designation.

Can someone else add money to my fare card?

Yes.  If you register your card, money can be loaded online.  Your username and password are needed to log into your account.  Fare can also be added at participating retail outlets such as Pick n Save or Walgreens (see a full list of retailers at ridemcts.com) or by calling Customer Service at (414) 937-0470.

I added the UMO app, why doesn't my card work?

If you transferred your account from the card to the UMO app during the setup process, any balance on the card will be transferred to the app and the card will no longer be valid.

Can I transfer my balance from another WisGo card?

Yes.  We recommend that you use up the balance on your Reduced Fare card, dispose of that card, then begin using the Transit Plus card.  If you prefer, you can contact customer service at (414) 937-0470 to transfer the funds.

What do I do with leftover Transit Plus tickets?

Transit Plus tickets will be accepted on the van until further notice.  We recommend that you use the tickets you have before you begin using the Transit Plus WisGo ID card or UMO app.

***Note: Transit Plus will not reimburse for unused tickets.

Can I continue to purchase Transit Plus tickets?

After February 27, 2026, Transit Plus will no longer sell $40 ticket books. Tickets will only be sold to long-term care agencies who supply them to their clients.  Riders who do not receive tickets from a long-term care agency should use the Transit Plus WisGo ID card, UMO app, or cash to pay their fare.

Do you offer refunds on WisGo?

No.  If you purchase fare on the app for a transit system other than MCTS, you must request a refund from that agency directly.

How will long-term care program fares change?

For the time being, there is no change in the way agencies pay for fares. Agencies will continue to purchase tickets at the agency rate for their participants. Your agency will let you know when and how your fare payment process will change when the time comes.

Can I use WisGo for the Same Day Ride Pilot?

No. Clients must continue to use cash or a debit / credit card to pay fares on the Same Day Ride Pilot.
