As a Commuter Value Pass customer, employees are automatically eligible to participate in the Emergency Ride Program. MCTS recognizes that a major obstacle in using our transit services is the rider’s fear of being “stranded” in case of a personal or family emergency. As a result, we created this program to provide alternate transportation for our Commuter Value Program users if an emergency arises and your normal bus service is not readily available.
A CVP participant may utilize the program when an emergency situation develops for the employee or an immediate family member.
• Rides are available between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. through a specified taxi company.
• The participant can quickly get home, to a transit point of origin or to a medical care facility. It is available throughout MCTS’s service area. Since we understand that time is of the essence, we made the program easy to use for the employee and easy to administer for the CVP Coordinator.
• When an emergency arises, the participant just lets his/her CVP work coordinator know of the emergency.
• The coordinator calls the taxi company and gives the participant a voucher to give to the taxi driver. There is minimal paperwork to be completed.
• No money or tip is needed. The participant just needs to fill in informationon the voucher and return it to the coordinator the next day.
Transit is a convenient and reliable form of transportation. The Emergency Ride Program gives that added assurance so you can use transit every day to work.

Since joining the CVP program in July 2002, approximately 15% of their corporate staff have chosen to take part. Participation is growing as they offer to subsidize the CVP as a company perk and have received a very positive response.
“When it comes to busy commutes, high gas prices and summer construction, the CVP provides a cost-effective and stress-free form of transportation. Our associates who participate have experienced the great value of the CVP and enjoy its many perks on a daily basis,” said Karen Spindler, director of corporate human resources for The Marcus Corporation. “Not only does it offer time to relax while traveling to and from work, but it comes in handy for nighttime and weekend leisure activities. Employees at Assurant Health find that the Commuter Value Pass (CVP) is a valued company perk offered by the company since 1997. Currently, 85 employees hold CVP’s, which are subsidized by the company, making it among the largest participants. Located in the heart of downtown since 1900, Assurant Health recently was named a Top Workplace in southeastern Wisconsin by the Journal Sentinel for the second consecutive year. “Assurant Health has a large bus ridership because it makes getting downtown so easy, especially during the construction season. And when gas prices rise, employee participation increases,” said Gwen Johnson, vice president, human resources, at Assurant Health.
“The CVP program helps a lot of employees and has a lot of fans at Assurant Health,” Johnson added. “An attractive factor is that this is an unlimited use pass, it includes the Freeway Flyers, and people can use it to travel to Summerfest or other activities in Milwaukee, not just work. Now that the transit system can accommodate bikes on the front of buses, there’s an added incentive for people who want to ride to their bus stop and then use their bikes for short errands during the day.”
The CVP also is easy to pay for as the cost is deducted automatically from employees’ paychecks twice a month.
Assurant Health is the brand name for a family of health insurance products focused on providing a variety of affordable plan choices to consumers. The portfolio of health care products includes major medical, supplemental and fixed-benefit plans for individuals, families and small employers. For more information, visit www.assuranthealth.com.

Maple Ridge Rehabilitation Center’s HR Manager, Sandy Corey, had great things to say about recently joining the Commuter Value Pass (CVP) program; “This is a true Commuter Value Pass! It is a very simple process and a great value to our employees. Any perk we can offer them is a WIN-WIN! I conduct interviews and being able to pass on a savings to a potential new employee is a great incentive.”
When Maple Ridge Rehabilitation Center introduced the CVP program to their employees there was a great deal of interest from those who were already riding the bus to work. With a savings of $34 for a monthly pass, it was an easy sell. Not surprisingly, employees who usually drive to work and occasionally ride the bus took advantage of the CVP as well.
