Call for Art: Bus Shelter Art Project

Attention all Milwaukee County creatives!

The Bus Shelter Art Project — an innovative collaboration between MCTS and The Bus Art Project MKE — is looking for fresh, new designs to print on vinyl and display on bus shelters. Eight new designs will be chosen and installed beginning in May 2019.

Designs must fit the size guidelines of the bus shelter window panels (see diagrams one and two) and should account for the 2” metal bars between windows. The artwork must be appropriate for public viewing; anything deemed inappropriate will be disqualified. This call is open to all Milwaukee County residents.

Artists retains all copyrights to submitted images and represented artwork. By entering artwork to the submission, artists grant The Bus Art Project MKE and MCTS rights to use the selected design(s) on promotional materials including print and digital. The Bus Art Project MKE and MCTS retain no copyrights or usage rights outside of promoting the artists, their work, and the program.

As this is a public art call, the artwork is open to the elements (i.e. weather damage, graffiti, theft). Any permanent damage to the artwork may result in the removal of the artwork. As these are meant to be temporary installations, we cannot guarantee that a replacement will be installed.

Please submit your designs to: by March 31st, 2019.

About the Bus Shelter Art Project

The Bus Shelter Art Project is a collaboration between the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) and The Bus Art Project MKE to spread art across the community. The Bus Art Project MKE, founded by Libby Olbrantz, works with the artists and raises money to pay for the production and installation of the art, then MCTS provides the space on its bus shelters.
