Fare Changing Coming for Transit Plus Riders

Important fare changes will take effect on January 2, 2018 for Transit Plus Riders. Per the Milwaukee County Board 2018 Adopted Budget, please note the following changes:

Transit Plus Van & Taxi Riders

The Transit Plus passenger fare for Van and Taxi service will cost $4.00 one way. This is a 50-cent increase from the current fare of $3.50.

All previously purchased tickets will still be accepted. Mail orders postmarked before December 22, 2017, will be filled at the existing rates, as will in-person ticket sales. When ordering tickets, please order only as many $3.50 fare tickets as you will need through the end of 2017. As of January 2, 2018, all new ticket sales will be filled based on the new rates.

MCTS Bus Riders (New Freedom Pass Holders)

The New Freedom Pass will now match the GO Pass cost of $1.00 per day. After paying the initial $1.00 on the first bus you board, you may tap your card on any additional bus you want to ride, and no additional fare will be required for that day.

  • ALWAYS tell the bus driver you are using your New Freedom Pass BEFORE touching the pass on the farebox on your initial boarding of the day
  • You will be able to use cash on the bus to pay for your New Freedom Pass, but the easiest and quickest way is to use Stored Cash Value on your New Freedom Pass. (See directions below for step-by-step instructions)
  • Stored Cash Value can be loaded on your New Freedom Pass online at RideMCTS.com or at any of the more than 90 fare outlet locations across Milwaukee County.
  • Visit our Where to Buy Page or call 414-344-6711 to find a fare outlet near you.

For additional information, please call the Transit Plus information line at 414-343-1700.

Using a New Freedom Pass on the Bus with Cash

  1. When you board the first bus each day, show the driver your New Freedom Pass card and tell them you would like to purchase a New Freedom Pass with cash
  2. Do not touch your card to the farebox until the driver says it’s okay
  3. Once the driver says it’s okay, touch your New Freedom Card to the farebox
  4. Put your money in the farebox
  5. After paying, touch your New Freedom card to the farebox and you’re ready for unlimited riding for that day
  6. On every additional bus you ride for the day, simply touch your card on the farebox when you board
