Ticket Questions

How Do I buy a ticket?

At the bottom of the home screen is the ticket and info drawer. Pull it up and click on the "Purchase Ticket" button. Select a Passenger you are buying the ticket for and checkout. Please note, you will need to have an account set up and a payment method to buy a ticket.

How much do tickets cost?

Currently we have two types of tickets.

·         $2 for 90 minutes of unlimited rides

·         $5 for 24 hours of unlimited rides

How do tickets work?

After you buy a ticket it will appear in the ticket drawer at the bottom of the home screen. Swipe up on the ticket and click on the ticket to bring it full screen. When you see your bus arriving, activate your ticket and show it to the driver when you board. After you’ve shown the ticket to the driver, you can close the app or go back to the app and the ticket will continue to count down while in your ticket drawer. If your ticket is still active you can use to ride as much as you want, simply touch the ticket to re-activate it and show it when you get on the next bus. Easy peasy.

How do I know how much time is left on the ticket?

The ticket has a very prominent countdown clock. Once the time hits zero, the ticket will disappear from your ticket drawer and you’ll need to buy another ticket to ride again.

Can I use this instead of my M•CARD?

Yes! This app is designed to offer a new way to pay for the bus. While you cannot transfer value from your M•CARD to the app, you can buy new passes directly on your phone. These are separate from all M•CARD accounts.

I have another type of pass. Can I load my other passes’ value into the app instead of carrying a card?

Not at the moment. The app provides tickets that are not connected to M•CARD, U-PASS, or other types of passes.

Can I buy tickets for other people to ride with me?

You can buy tickets for up to three other people. Simply enter each rider’s information in the “Passengers” section of the app menu and choose the rider you want to pay for when you are purchasing a ticket. If multiple people are boarding at once, show the driver your ticket first, after the driver acknowledges your ticket is valid, swipe left to access the next ticket. Do not swipe to the next ticket until the driver has acknowledged the ticket is valid.

Do I need a wireless connection to purchase tickets?

Yes, you will need a network or wireless connection to purchase tickets. However, once you have purchased tickets, you do not need a network or wireless connection to use a ticket because they are stored on your device. Our advice: buy a ticket and keep it in your ticket drawer, and you’ll be able to use it no matter how strong or weak your cell signal is.

If the ticket takes a long time to display, what should I do?

Some phones with older operating systems do not work as fast as newer phones. If you have an older phone that works a little slower, please be sure to give yourself plenty of time to activate the ticket before the bus arrives. You should also check to make sure you don't have too many applications open on your phone at one time, which could affect the responsiveness of the app.

Will a bus driver or other MCTS personnel need to handle my device?

No. Bus drivers, Transit Security and other MCTS personnel are instructed not to touch a customer's device. A bus driver may ask you to verify your ticket by asking you to touch the phone screen while the ticket is open or to tap the QR code icon at the bottom right corner of your active ticket. If you refuse to do this you will be asked to leave the bus.

What if my device battery dies?

You are responsible for showing proof of valid fare to bus drivers. Only a visible, active ticket will be considered a valid form of fare payment.

What if I purchased the wrong ticket? Can I get a refund?

No, tickets are non-refundable.

What should I do if I get a new phone or if I lost my phone?

Good news, your tickets live on your account, not your phone. Simply download the Ride MCTS app on your new phone, sign in to your account and you will find everything like you left it.

Can I get reduced fares through the app?

Not at this time.

Can I use the Ride MCTS app to pay for fares on Waukesha Transit or other transit systems?

No. At this time you can only use the Ride MCTS app to pay for fares on routes operated by MCTS.

Payment Questions

How do I add a credit card/PayPal/Venmo to my account?

Add payment info to your account by tapping the menu icon at the top left of the screen. Then, tap “Payment” and then “Add Payment Method.”

Can I get a refund?

No, MCTS does not offer refunds on any fares.

Why was my credit card declined?

Start by confirming that your card information was entered correctly, including your billing address, zip code and the three-digit security code on the back. These should appear exactly like they do on your billing statement. Other common errors include entering a “.” after your middle initial or including apartment numbers in the Address Line 1 field. If your transaction was declined, check to see if the billing address should linked to your employer’s address. If everything looks correct but you’re still having trouble, contact your bank for assistance.

How do I apply a Coupon code?

Click on the "Apply Coupon" button in the Payment menu screen and add your code. The credit will automatically be added to your account.

How do I edit a stored credit card on my account?

The best way to change card information is to remove the old card and add a new one. To do this, click on the card in question under “Payments” and press the red trash can in the upper right corner.

Trip Planning Questions

How do I plan a trip?

From the app home screen, click on the “Where To” bar at the top of the screen and enter your starting and ending location. To make things easy, the app can use your current location and will remember recent searches. You can also add home and work locations for quick trip-planning.

In the Trip Planner, you can choose to leave right away, at a later time or you can plan your trip by arrival time.

Once your locations are picked, hit the "Route" button in the upper right-hand corner and you’ll be shown various trip options. Click on any of the trips to see a map of the route. For more specific details like walking directions, bus stop locations and transfer opportunities, click on the lines in the upper right-hand corner. Tip, you can swipe left and right under “Trip Details” to see information for other trips.

I planned a trip using the “Arrive by” feature, but the trips it gives me already started. What gives?

Our app uses Google to help plan trips. When Google looks for calculated trip times it does not take into consideration whether or not the trip has started. Instead, Google sends users trips that end at their preferred "Arrive by" time, even if the trip duration is longer than the amount of time between the present time and the listed "Arrive by" time. Google may want this feature to allow users to see what trips were available at a certain point in time.

If this happens to you, instead of “Arrive by” use the “Depart at” feature and that will give you options that are viable.

How do I check on Real-Time Bus Arrival information?

There are two ways to get Real-Time Bus info, by bus stop or on the Real-Time map.

  1. By Bus Stop – Choose the stop from your favorites or zoom in to find the stop you are looking for and click on it. The arrival times you see are real-time estimates.
  2. By Real-Time Map – From the home screen click on the “All” button and choose your route to bring a map of all the buses on that route. Click on any bus to see Real-Time Arrival information.

How can I display bus schedules at the stop to appear based on arrival time not route?

Go to the Settings panel of the app and choose Time instead of Route.

How can I favorite a stop?

Click on any stop. A screen will pop up with stop details. Click the star in the top lefthand side of the pop up and that stop will be added to your favorites. You can access your full list of favorites by clicking on the star icon on the home page.

Technical Questions

What if the app is unresponsive?

Try closing out of the app and reopening the app. If that does not work, try logging out of the app and logging back in, and then try powering your phone off and then back on.

I did not receive a confirmation email when I purchased tickets, did my order go through?

Check your junk/spam email folder; the confirmation email may have ended up there. You should be able to see your purchase under "Orders" in the app or online at MCTS.Tixora.com.

Can the driver show me how to use the app?

It’s best to do your research before you head out. Your driver's job is to focus on the road and get you safely from A to B. Plus, they’ve been instructed not to touch customers’ devices. Check out the "Learn How to Use the App" info in the help area for a refresher course.

Can I access the Ride MCTS account on a computer?

You sure can. Go to MCTS.Tixora.com. After you sign in you’ll be able to look at past orders as well as manage payment options, passengers and settings. Please note, this option is only for managing your info; you cannot buy tickets or validate tickets from the website.
